The lights flash back and forth, the horn blares and the engines rumble by pulling their gondolas and hoppers and flatcars one after another, after another, after another.
But it’s the boxcars that carry you off into a daydream of far-off places and adventures and wonderful scenery and elegant trains with exciting names.
Your thoughts flash from one destination to another as the string of boxcars passes by telling you to “ship and travel” and about “Streamliners” and trains with names like The Chief, and Hiawatha and the “400” and Zephyrs that go Everywhere West.
And you know that those boxcars have been there and you know that they’re going back and that the next time you see them they’ll tell you the same thing.
The next time you’re sitting there and the lights flash back and forth and the horn blares.
